A beautiful new rose was recently patented and made available for sale. It has been selling out at nurseries around the world. Its introduction to the market has a fascinating connection to Martha Stewart.

In May 2023, Stewart decided to install a new rose garden at her New York Estate. She invited Danielle Dall’Armi Hahn to advise her. Danielle asked Martha, “What do you think about having your own rose?” Stewart loved the idea and wanted to develop her own variety, emphasizing medium-pink to apricot color and strong fragrance. However, creating a new rose usually takes 10 years. Given that she was 83 at the time, this was not an option, and the hunt was on for an existing suitable rose.

Star Roses had just the rose. It was developed in Europe by Meilland and sent to the US in 2015. Star Roses decided it would become a stellar rose and patented it in 2021 as CP 15 8603.

Danielle searched roses that would be available in Stewart’s limited time line and found Meilland’s unknown rose that met Stewart’s parameters. She agreed and approved the rose, commenting, “I am so happy that such a great rose is named after me, and many of you will be adding it to your garden.”
